There are a lot of opinions worth doubling down on, but James Cameron picked the wrong fight when it comes to “Wonder Woman.”
Last month, the director of five “Avatar” movies dismissed the DC hit, declaring the superheroine “an objectified icon,” calling the picture “a step backwards,” and then trumpeting his own Sarah Connor from “The Terminator” movies as the ideal female heroes should strive for. It wasn’t a good look. And the optics got worse, when he said this week that he’s “not walking it back,” praising Patty Jenkins with one hand for her accomplishments, while saying there wasn’t “anything groundbreaking” in movie with his other hand. Well, Wonder Woman herself has had enough.
Lynda Carter hit social media to call out James Cameron for slagging “Wonder Woman,” declaring his comments nothing more than “thuggish jabs”:
Well, perhaps now’s the time for James Cameron to back out of this conversation while he can. After all, he’s got a bunch of new “Avatar” movies to figure out. We’ll see if he can live up to his own groundbreaking standards when those pictures start landing.
