As seen in the new trailer for “Lynch/Oz,” Phillippe’s next analytical target is the film work of David Lynch. But instead of just breaking down a specific scene or film in the long career of Lynch, the documentarian is looking at how the “Twin Peaks” creator is influenced by Victor Fleming’s “The Wizard of Oz.” With contributors such as Amy Nicholson, Rodney Ascher, John Waters, Karyn Kusama, Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead, and David Lowery, Phillippe looks at how Lynch’s biggest influence inspired his incredible body of work.

“Lynch/Oz” debuted at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and has been making the rounds during the fall film festival circuit. The feature was just picked up for North American distribution by Janus Films and will hit theaters and VOD on December 2.

Here’s the synopsis:

In his latest feature, Swiss filmmaker Alexandre O. Philippe (78/52: Hitchcock’s Shower Scene; Memory: The Origins of Alien; The People vs. George Lucas) invited six American critics and filmmakers to explore and present their unique perspective on how Victor Fleming’s The Wizard of Oz has influenced the cinema of David Lynch. Contributors are Amy Nicholson, Rodney Ascher, John Waters, Karyn Kusama, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, and David Lowery. The result is a diverse, amusing, and revelatory exploration of David Lynch’s extraordinary body of work through the lens of his greatest influence.
