Lucas Hedges To Play Shia LaBeouf In LaBeouf-Penned ‘Honey Boy’ Biopic

Shia LaBeouf is about to work out his daddy issues on the big screen.

In the upcoming biopic, “Honey Boy,” the controversial actor is set to air out his personal drama with his father in front of the world, but in a unique way. You see, LaBeouf isn’t going to play himself, in the biopic. No, he’s going to play his own dad. And now, according to a recent report, we know that actor Lucas Hedges is set to play a young LaBeouf… opposite LeBeouf, himself.

“Honey Boy” is co-written by LaBeouf, with co-writer Alma Har’el set to also direct. The actor recently revealed the idea behind the film, as well as many other things, during a recent in-depth interview with Esquire magazine. LaBeouf revealed that the script for “Honey Boy,” which found its way on the coveted Black List, was in fact written by himself, under the pseudonym of Otis Lort. The script’s synopsis read: “A child actor and his law-breaking, alcohol-abusing father attempt to mend their contentious relationship over the course of a decade.”

Hedges will portray the actor, approximately the age when LaBeouf was starring in the Disney Channel show, “Even Stevens,” in the early 2000s. LaBeouf, as previously mentioned, will play his own troubled father. LaBeouf’s father had given the actor the nickname Honey Boy when LaBeouf was a child. However, in the film, the characters will all get new names, which is probably for the best. There’s no way we could make it two hours with LaBeouf calling Hedges “Shia.”

While LaBeouf hasn’t been in many high-profile films, as of late, the actor has recently been praised for his role in “American Honey,” and he will be seen in the upcoming “Borg vs McEnroe,” which will be released next month. Hedges’ star is very much on the rise the last couple years. After an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in “Manchester by the Sea,” Hedges also had great roles in two Best Picture nominees last year, “Lady Bird” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”

Director Har’el is perhaps best known for her music video work and the documentary, “11/8/16,” about the Trump election win.

No word yet on the release date for “Honey Boy.”
