You can’t deny it. The new trailer for the upcoming Starz series “The White Princess” looks a lot like “Game of Thrones.” The story revolves around an ambitious, perhaps ruthless princess looking to take control of a kingdom from underneath her husband, the king. Unfortunately, this blonde princess doesn’t have the aid of dragons or Tyrion Lannister.
You wouldn’t know it by the trailer, but “The White Princess” is actually a sequel. A previous 10 episode series produced by the BBC, called “The White Queen,” was released in 2013 to critical acclaim, gaining Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. That series was based on a trilogy of bestselling novels by Phillipa Gregory, but due to low viewership, a sequel was never produced. Now, almost 4 years later, Starz is ready to take a chance on the sequel “The White Princess.”
The series stars Jodie Comer, Jacob Collins-Levy, Essie Davis, and “Game of Thrones” alum Michelle Fairley. “The White Queen” showrunner/writer Emma Frost is back to produce the sequel series along with author Phillipa Gregory.
“The White Princess” will premiere on Starz on April 16.
