With “The Avengers” going to Joss Whedon and “Clash Of The Titans 2: Even Titanier” set to be helmed by Jonathan Liebsman, it looks like Louis Leterrier is currently the loneliest man in Hollywood. The only project currently left on his plate is an adaptation of “Y: The Last Man,” but development on that appears to be moving slowly, however, it appears the director might have another project up his sleeve.
Pajiba reports that Leterrier is circling a film called “Gravity” (whose title is sure to change given Alfonso Cuaron’s project of the same name) whose high concept is either the best or worst thing we’ve read in a long time. Described as a cross between “Taken” and “The Day After Tomorrow,” the film is “about a father who has to search for his lost child as the world stops spinning and Earth begins to lose its gravity.” Ok, there is a small part of us that thinks it’s kind of stupid awesome, but a much larger part of us that thinks it’s just plain stupid.
The project is currently set up at Universal Pictures under the Mark Gordon Company production banner. The film has George Nolfi (“The Adjustment Bureau,” “The Sentinel”) attached to produce.
This sounds like a big, expensive project and given that Universal is having a bad year with their latest big, expensive projects (“Green Zone,” “Robin Hood,” “Repo Men”) underperforming, we wouldn’t be surprised if this one has trouble getting a greenlight.
