‘Lost City Of D’: Paramount Eyeing Ryan Reynolds & Sandra Bullock To Lead The New Rom-Com

You don’t have to be a fan of rom-coms (and this writer is definitely not a fan) to enjoy “The Proposal.” The film, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, has the two performers at the top of their charismatic games in a silly, but genuinely funny rom-com. Plus, there’s Betty White! But that film is more than a decade ago and if anything, Reynolds and Bullock’s stars have only risen higher, which is what makes the forthcoming Paramount film, “The Lost City of D,” all the more enticing.

According to Deadline, Reynolds and Bullock are being eyed by Paramount to reteam for a new adventure-y rom-com, “The Lost City of D.” Described as a “Romancing the Stone”-esque story, the two actors would star in the rom-com directed by Adam and Aaron Nee. The details of the film are still under wraps and the report claims that Paramount is hoping to get in front of cameras relatively soon, which means that Reynolds’ availability could be in question. That being said, the studio is pushing hard to have the two actors reunite for another rom-com.

The Nee Brothers are probably best known for their indie films “Band of Robbers” and “The Last Romantic.” However, most recently, they were chosen to helm the forthcoming “Masters of the Universe” reboot film that is supposed to star Noah Centineo. However, that film has been the subject of numerous delays, which makes them available to direct ‘Lost City.’

However, as mentioned, Reynolds is a busy man and has no shortage of projects on the horizon. And Bullock is no slouch either, as she’s signed on to star in a new film from Christopher McQuarrie (no, not “Mission: Impossible”-related) and produce a new Amazon series about her earlier years in college.

It’s unclear what the end goal is for “The Lost City of D.” Normally, we’d say that this would be a sure-fire theatrical release, however, Paramount has been one of the more streaming-friendly studios, with a Netflix deal in place and a recent string of high-profile VOD releases. So, with theaters on the edge of extinction, who knows what’s going to happen?
