Post like these are the reason we resent ever branding ourselves the place “where music and movies meet.” Dunno, about ‘chu, but we could give a fuck about My Chemical Romance and Gerard Way. But since some of you insist…
Way is making an film adaptation of his graphic novel, “The Umbrella Academy” and is making headway over at Universal. According to the L.A. Times, Way hopes to (pardon our laughter) bring in people such as “Children of Men” director Alfonso Cuarón, Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (“Chicago,” “Sweeney Todd“) and perhaps screenwriter Diablo Cody, (she wrote this movie called “Juno.” that you loved). He also think Michel Gondry would be perfect to direct his baby.
Hey, why not get Steven Spielberg, Kate Winslet, Santa Claus and Count Chocula to work on it to since the sky’s apparently the limit, Mr. Peter Pan.
Well, he could go with Wes Anderson, but you know, their sensibilities are obviously pretty much the same and it’s kind of cheating (BWAHAHAHAHAHA!) “I think [Anderson’s] too close to home. It’s too much to the source, unfortunately for me. I think he would read it and think, ‘I think I’ve covered this ground already.’ “
Gee, who the fuck does this kid think he is? What a laugh. We’re not making these quotes up either.
Way continues his naively optimistic ways. “We just had our first meeting at Universal, and it went great. The hardest thing was finding the right building and the right gate. The book was optioned before [International Comic-Con in] San Diego, and now it’s been green-lighted. Now we’re talking screenwriters and directors, obviously. There’s no director attached yet.”
Way is interested in co-starring the film with someone who probably (hopefully) wouldn’t give him the time of day. “I’m interested in co-scoring it with somebody too. Something like RJ-D2.”
Uh, someone?
Way says he wants the film to be like, ” ‘Harold & Maude‘ meets the ‘X-Men.’ The soundtrack can’t be a straight score. It has to have some kind of quirk to it. I want to make the music super, super interesting.” Wow, that’s descriptive.
Lastly, there’s one film it can’t be like! “The one thing I don’t want to have happen is I don’t want it to be ‘Harry Potter.’ ” Oh brother… What is this kid going to do when he realizes the best he’s going to get is Uwe Boll or the guy who did “Resident Evil.” Ah, dare to dream.
Yeah, poor guy oughta know that he's going to be pigeonholed (for all of the right reasons) and the movie will come out reaking of emo. Diablo Cody's about the lowest-slung star on his wishlist, so I would call that one a possibility, if not an ill fit. All of the others names are simply taken from his DVD collection (which isn't a bad one, at that).
TUA isn't bad, but isn't terrific material. And yes, it'll be the next step in evolution for tweener-ish folks' movie du jour (after Harry Potter & Twilight, of course).
Someone like Diablo Cody is in the super fortunate position where she can basically write any original story and someone will want to make into a movie. Why would she waste her time on someone else’s graphic novel?
No shot in hell. Dude is in for a rude awakening.
comix comix comix,…give the kid some props…at least he has a real comic…unlike coheed and cambria…if he can pull of a comic with all the demands and deadlines that entails…i’m sure hollywood is salivateting and he will suply slake for their thirst.
not to sound rude or anything, but what do you have against him? all your posts about him seem bitter and a little bit hateful =( he is a good artist, writer, and he is a pretty good singer. Oh, and i think there's no problem saying who he'd like to bring in on a project. even if it is wishful thinking. I'd love to have, you know, William Shakespeare come help out on some of my classes, but i know it aint gonna happen. (especially since he'd probably get mad because i said aint. I think he might)lol
