The year is winding down, and the list of movies yet to be seen by critics is growing smaller. But there are some big pictures remaining, and certainly, the sci-fi “Passengers” with Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence is one of them.
December is a big month for sci-fi with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “The Space Between Us” both telling outer space stories, but this one brings with it a script that has been knocking around Hollywood for years, and earned strong enough buzz that it put Jon Spaihts on the map (he would go on to write “Prometheus” and “Doctor Strange” before this finally got made). And it has Morten Tyldum, fresh of “The Imitation Game,” behind the camera. So the ingredients are there for something very cool, and we’ll see in a few weeks how it all turns out.
“Passengers” opens on December 21st.
I love the way they’re trying to market this thing like there’s some sort of bigger mystery or conspiracy going on when in fact that there’s nothing of the sort. The story is so much smaller and straight forward (in a good way!) than this. It’s more of a simple romance, with a few exciting set-pieces, but it’s being sold as some sort of big action movie. Because they spent WAY too much on it.
Yeah I´m kind of worry that Sony had ruined the script, that’ll be very disappointing considering Jen and Chris seem to have great chemistry, and the story is also very interesting.
