Sure, everyone has their sights set on the upcoming fall film festival season, with Venice being the headline-grabber right out of the gate. However, let’s not sleep on the Locarno Film Festival, which begins August 7. One of the premier festivals devoted to bringing the best in international arthouse fare has just announced its lineup, and if you’re in Switzerland during that 10 day period, you’re likely going to have plenty of great films to check out.
In addition to screenings of “A Letter to Freddy Buache” from Jean-Luc Godard, which is a short documentary about the Swiss film critic who passed away earlier this year, Locarno is featuring some big names in its Piazza Grande lineup. Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” is headed to Locarno, as are “To the Ends Of The Earth” from director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, “Adoration” from Fabrice du Welz, and “7500” from Patrick Vollrath.
Other notable screenings include “Krabi” from directors Ben Rivers and Anocha Suwichakornpong, as well as a new short film from Oscar-nominated filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, titled “Nimic,” which stars Matt Dillon.
As mentioned, the Locarno Film Festival starts August 7 and runs until August 17.
