‘Little Voice’ Trailer: JJ Abrams Returns To His Roots With A New Musical Drama Series On Apple TV+

Thanks to the “Star Trek” and “Star Wars” franchises, people tend to forget just how JJ Abrams started his career. Back before “Lost,” “Mission: Impossible III,” and even “Alias,” Abrams was best known as the writer-director-creator of the drama series “Felicity,” starring Keri Russell. And no, there weren’t aliens or explosions in that series. Just the everyday drama of a young woman trying to navigate her tumultuous life. And it appears that Abrams is going back to his roots for his upcoming Apple TV+ series, “Little Voice.”

As seen in the trailer for “Little Voice,” Abrams’ new series follows the struggles of a young woman trying to figure out how to pay the bills, take care of her brother, and deal with all the issues that come along with being a dreamer in 2020. Sounds a bit like that late- ‘90s TV show that launched the filmmaker’s career, huh?

Well, one big difference between “Felicity” and “Little Voice” is the inclusion of singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles. As mentioned, the lead in “Little Voices” (played by Brittany O’Grady) is a dreamer, with aspirations to become a singer-songwriter. And thanks to the work on Bareilles, “Little Voice” is going to feature original songs throughout the series, making it a bit of a musical. Joining Bareilles and Abrams in the creation of the series is Jessie Nelson, a filmmaker that has worked on features such as “Love the Coopers,” as well as shows like “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

As mentioned, the series stars O’Grady alongside actors such as Sean Teale, Colton Ryan, Shalini Bathina, Kevin Valdez, Phillip Johnson Richardson, and Chuck Cooper.

“Little Voice” is scheduled to debut on Apple TV+ on July 10. You can watch the trailer for the series below.
