Just when you thought Lars von Trier‘s sex-tacular “Nymphomaniac” couldn’t throw any more curveballs your way, here is yet another: Charlotte Gainsbourg, in addition to taking the lead role which sees her tied up, spanked and lord knows what else, is also contributing to the soundtrack.
The actress—who is an accomplished singer as well with albums 5:55 and IRM as the highlights—has covered the rock standard “Hey Joe” (made famous by Jimi Hendrix) for the movie (reminder: her character in the film is also named Joe). Moreover, she reteamed with Beck—who produced IRM—to twiddle the knobs again here, and the result? Another dose of her breathy, ethereal pop that still retains the bluesy stomp of the original. It’s pretty darn good. So give it a spin below and no word yet on what other music may be appearing on the soundtrack, aside from Lars’ usual helping of opera and classical jams. [Stereogum]
if the movie captures the same mood & style it's going to be great.
