Got a Tip?

Listen: Beyoncé & Andre 3000’s “Back To Black” From ‘The Great Gatsby,’ Soundtrack Getting Vinyl Release

nullWhile the prospect of Beyoncé and Andre 3000 covering Amy Winehouse‘s “Back To Black” has many intrigued, one person who isn’t a fan of the whole endeavour is the late singer’s father. “I don’t think she brings anything to it,” Mitch Winehouse told the Daily Mail. “I wasn’t asked for my permission if they could record it.” But he then goes on to clarify that the filmmakers “have got to pay for the privilege, which is what they are doing. I can’t tell you how much it is but it’s a lot of money.” So he’s down with this if the price is right? Either way, the song has been completed and you can now hear the results.

The cover was debuted on the East Village Radio mixshow, hosted by Mark Ronson, co-writer of the original, and the finished product is…okay. Beyoncé certainly gets to flex her singing chops, but the wobbly electronic redo doesn’t match the potency of the arrangements in Winehouse’s tune. But anyway, give it a listen and let us know what you think below.

Finally, as you already known, the soundtrack hits on May 7th. However, if you’re a vinyl junkie, you might want to skip the CD and wait for the LP being issued by Third Man Records which will contain all 17 tracks on the Target exclusive CD deluxe edition. They are also dropping individual 7″ discs for certain tracks on the album, including Jack White‘s cover of U2‘s “Love Is Blindness.”

So keep that all in mind — the movie drops May 10th. [JustJared/CraveOnline]

  1. Terrible they were actually paid for that crap amy is rolling over in her grave. The movie looks good but the soundtrack obviously sucks now i think i will wait for it to come to redbox instead of the theater i don't want to pay ten dollars and have to listen to a butchered soundtrack that has nothing to do with the movie terrible terrible terrible i mean this kind of music if u want to call it that was not even around in the time this film was based. I know Hollywood does nothing original anymore but don't destroy the classic please

  2. 7 clips of Gatsby are now online. You guys should feature that instead of every. single. song. The movie actually looks quite good. I was in the skeptical camp at first mainly b/c I'm a diehard fan of the novel, but it really looks like Lurhmann has pulled it off. Also, I was checking early reactions from a screening on twitter last night and it looks like people really enjoyed it. So this is will likely be a big money maker… I just hope it doesn't flop critically. I would love to see Luhrmann recognized for his vision since he was robbed of an Oscar nom for directing Moulin Rouge.
