‘Like Crazy’ Director Drake Doremus May Make A Futuristic Love Story Next

Ok, name as many sci-fi romance movies as you can: go. Sure, you can probably come up with "The Time Traveler's Wife," or "The Adjustment Bureau," but what about good ones. "Happy Accidents," "Starman" if you're feeling generous, "Solaris," "2046," maybe "Gattaca" applies, but that's not a particular sub genre that's well-traversed.

This could change. Drake Doremus, the director of the excellent relationship drama, "Like Crazy," which essentially introduced audiences to Felicity Jones in 2011, is considering making a sci-fi romance movie to complete what would be a romance trilogy film. Doremus is coming off strong reviews for his latest, the somewhat darker romantic adultery tale, "Breathe In," starring Jones again and Guy Pearce.  Our very positive review from Sundance this weekend said, "Intimate, expressive, agonizing and beautifully rendered, director Drake Doremus' third feature-length effort, 'Breathe In'…is like the darker cousin to Doremus' wistful relationship drama 'Like Crazy,' possessing an intensity and tension that's emotionally bruising." Count the rest of us in.

So for a third act in this romantic triad? Something in the future. “I’m starting to tinker with this idea of making a futuristic love story in a sense – that this will be a trilogy of past, present and future," Doremus told Movies.com " 'Like Crazy' was about the past and had a very nostalgic feel to it, and kind of about my past. ['Breathe In'] is about confronting the idea of love in the present, and then what love means in the future is what I’m interested in exploring next.”

We're sold already and think this could be a really intriguing idea. In the meantime, Doremus is surely focused on "Breathe In," also starring Amy Ryan and buzzed-about newcomer Mackenzie Davis, which doesn't have a distributor yet. But we assume that's likely going to change in the next week.
