"Fun." It’s going to be the word Warner Bros. will be using more and more to try and counter the vibe out there that "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" and the films that will follow are humorless affairs. In fact, the studio already said that ‘Dawn Of Justice’ "doesn’t take itself seriously, it’s just an enjoyable afternoon at the movies," which convinced nobody. But there’s plenty of time to course-correct, and according to James Wan, who will be helming "Aquaman," he wants to have a lighter touch with the character.
“I think Aquaman is a character that is, you know, a lot of people have made fun of over the years, and I just think it’s fun to actually show a really different, cool, badass side to this character, but at the same time, let’s not forget to have fun with it,” he told IGN.
So hey, there’s hope yet that the DC Films universe can make some room for a breezier tone, though is Aquaman the character for that? School me in the comments section, DC Comics experts.
By no means am I a DC comic "expert" — my knowledge of other characters in the universe is shaped mostly by their proximity to Batman — but I feel like more recent iterations of the character have actually been a little more stoic, reserved… not necessarily Dark Knight level bleakness but also not someone I think of as "fun". That being said, I\’m really hoping for the ultimate irony that the Aquaman and Wonder Woman movies end up being way better than the festering turd that launched them this past weekend.
