So, remember when it was announced last fall that a biopic on reality TV sensation Susan Boyle was in the works? Well, it looks like she’s going to star in a movie first.
The singer is set to make her feature film debut alongside “Les Miserables” star Samantha Barks in “The Christmas Candle,” the plot of which sounds about a corny as the title. Based on the Max Lucado novella, the period film concerns the titular Christmas candle, and what happens when it goes missing. Of course, a holiday miracle and various human contrivances will make sure it’s discovered again. A pretty decent cast has been rounded up for this one, including Hans Matheson (the non-musical 1998 “Les Miserables”), Lesley Manville (“Another Year”), John Hannah (“The Mummy”), James Cosmo (“Game of Thrones”), Sylvester McCoy (“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”) and Barbara Flynn (“Miss Potter”).
John Stephenson is directing the movie, which is currently shooting, but no word yet on the various roles. Our guess? This will probably get a Christmas release in the UK. [Screen Daily/THR]
