No, this is not an April Fool’s Day gag. Vanilla Ice — oh sorry, Robert Van Winkle — is getting into the acting biz. Seriously. And just wait until you read the character he’ll playing — but we’re getting a bit ahead of ourselves.
Leighton Meester, James Caan and Vanilla Van Winkle (it’s our new name for him, it rules) have joined the Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg comedy vehicle “I Hate You, Dad” which will find the older actor playing the younger’s father, who moves in with his son shortly before his wedding and finds himself falling out with the bride-to-be. Uh oh! Meester will play Samberg’s fiance (now that’s comedy), Caan as her tough talking father and Mr. Van Winkle? Wait for it. He’ll play a gay wedding coordinator. Amazing. We hope he’s studying tapes of Martin Short in “Father of the Bride.”
But yeah, other than that, the film actually sounds kind of terrible. Sean Anders and John Morris — the guys who brought you “Sex Drive,” “She’s Out Of My League” and “Hot Tub Time Machine” — will be directing. Our only hope in the film lies in the script which was given a re-write by David Wain and Ken Marino but we’re sure Adam Sandler’s staff of comedy writers will destroy it and bring it down to his sub-juvenile level.
“I Hate You, Dad” will film his summer and open on June 15, 2012. [The Wrap/Variety]
At least Sean Anders and John Morris are not Dennis Dugan.
will this be as good as \’cool as ice\’?
Vanilla Ice\’s idea of a gay guy? I can\’t imagine how that could possibly turn out offensive.
I was blinded by his bling in that photo and must have forgot. Vanilla Van Winkle is back baby.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Robert Van Winkle has been in the acting game for twenty years. And if you haven\’t seen Cool as Ice, you haven\’t lived.
