Legendary Reportedly Looking To Leave Warner Bros. Discovery For A New Studio Home

With all the drama surrounding Warner Bros. Discovery in recent months, particularly after CEO David Zaslav took over the company after its recent merger, it’s easy to forget that it wasn’t that long ago WarnerMedia (without Discovery) was battling plenty of controversy all on its own. The largest bit was the announcement that all 2021 Warner Bros. film releases would hit theaters and HBO Max on the same day. This led to quite a bit of discussion amongst the film industry and some damaged relationships between WB and some of its top talents including Christopher Nolan. And it appears we’re now seeing even more of that fallout, as Legendary is expected to sever its ties to the studio.

According to a report from The Ankler, Legendary Entertainment is looking for a new home after some rough times over at Warner Bros. You may remember that Legendary was reportedly seeking legal action against WB’s decision to release films straight to HBO Max in 2021, as the company had major releases such as “Godzilla vs. Kong” and “Dune” that saw potential box office losses due to the strategy. It was also reported that WB had been working behind the scenes to make sure everyone involved was happy and got some extra money due to the potential losses. Alas, the damage was done and it appears Legendary is looking elsewhere for a studio partner.

Ankler is reporting that Sony and Paramount seem to be the most logical destinations for Legendary. If that’s true, it would appear that Warner Bros. Discovery would suffer another major loss, as Legendary is one of the biggest production companies around. But then again, judging by the moves that Zaslav has made over the past several weeks, it doesn’t appear that the CEO is all that interested in maintaining creative relationships and is more interested in the bottom line. 

We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but it would appear the studio behind “Dune,” “Godzilla vs. Kong,” “Detective Pikachu,” and more is on the move.
