Got a Tip?

‘The Last Song’ Soundtrack With Miley Cyrus Features Iron & Wine, Jose Gonzalez & The Ravonettes

Yes, we know it’s a Miley Cyrus movie based on a Nicholas Sparks book, an author whose fans don’t seem to mind reading the formula over and over, and then watching the same movie of that formula over and over, but we digress. The reason that we’re writing this on a Saturday afternoon when we should be doing anything but blogging is that the soundtrack boasts some music that we didn’t think we’d ever find in a movie like this.

The soundtrack for “The Last Song” has been revealed and alongside such dreck by OneRepublic, Maroon 5 and the aforementioned Cyrus, are tracks by Iron & Wine, Jose Gonzalez and The Ravonettes (we’re sure the guys over at Vice Records had a good laugh when Disney came knocking to license a song). While we’re not sure what a song like “Heart Of Stone” is doing in a three-hanky teen weepie, Iron & Wine and Jose Gonzalez’s lighter fare sort of make sense. The soundtrack is rounded out by smaller indie acts VHS Or Beta, Ra Ra Riot and The Paper Raincoat ensuring Disney’s marketing department that all their target demographics have been hit.

After a release date shuffle, “The Last Song” will arrive in theaters on March 31st, with the soundtrack streeting a week earlier on March 23rd.

  1. to be honest, the book was the best book ive ever read. and the movie looks good. though im no miley cyrus fan, if she does play the role right, then she'll get my respect. but anyways, songs are good,

  2. I gotta admit i loved the book and couldn't put it down. it looks like the movies gonna be awesome too, cant wait:) you all should really read the book too!

  3. I will be very upset if they ruin the book with her in the movie and just any part of the movie. That is my favorite book. They had to down grade it to pg because miley is in it. So a lot of stuff will have to be cut out and some of it is important!!!!

  4. i absolutely indefinatley love this boooook…i read it in 2 days…nichoulous sparks is my new favorite author besides l.j. mith and stephenie meyer(: <33

  5. Yeah the book was great…but I wish they had picked someone else to play Ronnie. I dont really appreciate the road miley cyrus has taken lately lol

  6. I just saw the movie and it was great! I'm not a HUGE Miley fan but she played Ronnie really well…and the little guy who played Jonah…wow, you will be crying…not a dry eye in the theatre tonight, no lies.

There were A FEW things that they missed but overall, it was done really well and there are a lot of laughs as well! I loved the book…and after the disappointment of Dear John, I was worried about this one…but it was SO good!

Pee ess…Liam Hemsworth is HOT in the movie…but even HOTTER in person…*fans self*

  7. The book was amazing! i read the whole thing in day! i couldnt stop. so i read 4 more of nicholas sparks books and they were amazing! movie looks great and im excited about the early wednesday release!

  8. Personally I believe the book was brilliant. I absoutly loved it, but I'm worried about Miley playing the part of Ronnie. I'm not a big fan of Mileys acting and I'm scared she will ruin the character and the quality of this book.

  9. If you want to read a really really good Sparks book, pick up a copy of Bend in the Road…..very touching story that will have you saying WOW in the end….. 😉

  10. OMG I like this playlist. I read the book in less than a day. I loved it! I love Nicholas Sparks and every book he wrote! I can't wait to see this movie. I'm not a big Miley fan, true, but I do hope nothing gets really ruined, per say.
    can't wait!

  11. OMG the book is my favourite book in the whole world i read it 3 times and would love to read it again im sooo excited for the movie and i think miley will do a fine job as ronnie:)

  12. I read the book and not once did I put it down. I really hope they contain the same vital information and portray it correctly in the movie. I was so disappointed in Dear John. The book was amazing, But the movie wanted me to gag

  13. ik a lot of people are upset that miley is playing ronnie but you have to remember that nicolas sparks wrote the book with her in mind…so really no one else could play the part

  14. im not a fan of the way miley portrays herself as a person, but i do like her work i think shes great. i saw the movie and i think she did an o.k. job of playing ronnie

  15. For the x-isht time – Miley Cyrus can't ruin what was written for her – when will you "critcs" ever see that?

Spark has done the movie-script before the Novel itself was even finished – He wrote this book for (and with) Miley – So why should she ruin the character of Ronnie – Over all she is Ronnie, so even when Cyrus is yet no Meryl Streep when it comes down to acting there's nothing to ruin it – Period!

  16. i really like miley cyrus as an actor people think they have her all figured out when they dont know whats its like to be famous … i love acting and i think she does a great job…love ya…owwwww ans the songs…lol 🙂

  17. Um. Nope. 🙂 Not really. 🙂
They didn't make it PG because Miley's in it..all the parts are still in there. It was a very good interpretation of the book. They got every detail in it even when Ronnie called Ashley a bitch. So maybe you should see the movie first, kaay? 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  18. okay i saw the movie tonight and i think it was the best movie i have seen in a very LONG time!if anyone thinks its bad or thinks the songs are bad they are MORONS!

  19. Okay so i saw the movie and i thought it was amazing, it portrayed such a great message to always be thankful for the live your given and to always be close with your family because life is way too short and you never know what will happen. Miley was such a great actress in this movie and i wouldn't pick anyone else to play the part. I love her to death and hope to see her in many more movies!

  20. not a biqq miley fan but dha movie is dha best she did qood i recommend yhu see iht if yhu lyked dha book iht is just alike not so many diffrences ♥

  21. I saw this movie yesterday. I am 29 and I do not think I have yet to ever cry at a movie. Well, I cried for the entire last 30 minutes at least of this one. It was a story that truly touched me after just losing my father a 1 year ago. I am going to also read the book. This movie is PACKED with so many emotional situations, it makes you leave with a new look on life and living. I LOVED IT.

  22. There isn't one thing I'd change about the movie. Not the actors, the songs, or anything. Miley Cyrus did a truly, wonderfully, magical job in this movie. She perfected the role, as did the other actors in the movie. I congratulate each and everyone of you! Keep up the great work!

  23. omg!! stfu 2 hueva says dis was a bad movie/ book!! da movie was a good 1, and the book was da best ive eva red, even betta dan twilight!! i even got my frend, hu hates nethin dat has 2 do wit miley cyrus!! i <3 The Last Song!!!!!

  24. One song not on this list was "I Disappear" by The Faint.

Awesome song; I don't know how it could have been forgotten. But I suppose I'm from Omaha and spend too much time listening to them.

It's the scene when she runs off when she first gets to Georgia.

  25. I haven't seen or read the book, but both look really good.
And to everyone assuming Miley Cyrus is going to ruin the movie and it won't be better then the book, the movie was written with her in mind, and the book was written AFTER the movie was written.

  26. read the book over the weekend; Loved it…just watched the movie.. not impressed.
i suppose thats what happens when you take a book and try to crush it into an hour and 40 or so minutes.. good parts were left out !! marcus and 'blaze'… and sorting out the shop lifting scandal (court and blaze's confession)…the cause of the church fire!!!!!! and the wedding fiasco was completely different..
in my opinion, read the book and skip the movie.

  27. For those of you who are bashing Miley for this movie please keep in mind that when Nicholas Sparks was writting this novel he had it in mind that he wanted Miley to play the lead. Miley even named "Ronnie" so before you go all Miley hating saying that you loved the book but hated her maybe read a little more carefully.

  28. I can honestly say that The Last Song is one of the best books I've read. I was written so well that I was actually crying and severl parts 'hit home' for me. With this in mind I'm not sure that I want to run what I have in my mind by watching the movie. There is so much I imagine would be cut out to fit into the movie.
In saying all this I do want to say that I am a Miley fan, so it's not that I don't want to se it because of her, it's just that I REALLY LOVED the book.
    I definitely suggest reading it!

  29. The book was great. I had a hard time putting it down! I am looking forward to seeing the movie.

p.s. The book was written with Miley in mind..so get over it!!!

  30. Truly amazing movie … and Miley couldn't be better. Yes Im a 34 year old male and have recently lost an aunt and now my grandfather to cancer. The Last Song totally hit home on so many different levels, and it was not hard to feel the pain portrayed in such a heart felt story!

  31. Guys I could REALLY use your help about a song in the movie, I'm dying over here. Okay, in the last scene, right before when I look at you comes on, theres an instrumental song, it was BEAUTIFUL and I'm dying to know how it's by. Can anyone help me out here?

  32. Miley Cyrus is a very beautiful and talented girl…no matter what she's done (drugs, pictures, etc.)Shes still an amazing girl an I will always be a fan of her.
I will never give up on her just because she has made a couple mistakes. Shes just human like all the rest of us. Give her a break, shes just living her life. Shes trying to have fun in her teenage years…just leave it alone. Whats done is done and its none of your business what she does in her free time.

  33. ok for one, this was a good movie and made me cry cus it made me think of my aunt who just died from terminal brain cancer RIP 5/5/11
but i have to admit, miley kinda sucks at being ronnie in this movie, they should've gotten another actress to play ronnie cus personally i think she sucks ass at acting [movie rolls] she's good in hannah montana, but that's about it. im sorry but she wasn't very convincing at all. she was so emotionless. i think the only true emotions i saw from her in this movie was when she saw her dad die. that's about it! sorry guys, but she sucks!!!! 🙂 js

  34. It was the best movie I've ever read. I loved the movie. It made me cried, it touched directly my heart, because my parents divorced and I wasn't taking it so good. Nicholas Sparks is a great author, one of my favorites, including Stephenie Meyer.
Ps: Miley Cyrus played good as Ronnie, she showed emotion. 🙂

  35. its a realiee awesum book. the movie is well made bt many parts hv been left out wich wud hv been great to watch. miley actd realie wel n evn liam ws amazin. loved d movie <3 <3 <3….
