Ah, rumors. Today’s juicy tidbit of possibly erroneous information is the report that James McAvoy (“The Last King of Scotland,” the upcoming “Atonement”) is one of the front runners to play Kurt Cobain in the upcoming Courtney Love-sanctioned Cobain/Nirvana biopic.
Well, according to the always dubious Dotmusic anyhow.
As reported earlier, Universal Pictures secured the rights to the biopic, the film will be based on Charles Cross’ book, “Heavier Than Heaven,” and screenwriter David Benioff – the guy who wrote “Troy” and is writing “Wolverine” – is penning the script (perfect choice, right?).
As one reader astutely points out, Benioff did write Spike Lee’s “The 25 Hour” so there could be hope (yes, it’s an excellent film).
David Benioff also wrote The 25th Hour (and Spike Lee made into a movie), which i thought was great. Couldn’t be worse than Last Days, that movie that really wasn’t about Cobain except for the fact that it was, right?
You are correct. Plus i love “The 25th Hour,” but yes, it’s kind amusing to poke fun at a guy who is writing Wolverine and then a Kur biopic, no?
“Last Days” is… a’ight.
Well I hope that it’s an
erroneous information that James McAvoy will play Kurt Cobain because the perfect choice to play this role is Jared Leto.
I seriously hope for humanity’s sake that you’re joking.
Why? Jared Leto is an exceptionally gifted actor (and musician), it has nothing to do with the gossip that’s around him. We have to separate here, don’t you think so?
Thanks by the way that you’ve posted my comment even if you obviously don’t agree with me 😉
Yeah, Voltaire and all that. I might not agree with you, but i do respect your right to say it.
But i do think you’re on crack. Ok, Leto IS a good actor, but HE is a total douchechoad and his music is an abomination.
You’ll never get me to think otherwise. 😉
Hm. You’re not the first one that thinks I’m on crack because I like Jared Leto…lol!
What’s a ‘douchechoad’, please? Sorry, I’m german and I couldn’t figure out any meaning of this word, not even on several ‘Slang Phrases’ sites. But I kind of sense that it’s not very nice.
You don’t like him, that’s okay. I don’t wanna make you change your mind, I won’t even try it. You have your favourites, I have mine.
BUT DON’T CALL ME NUTS BECAUSE JARED LETO IS ONE OF MINE!!! LOL!

Jared Leto actually would be a good fit to play Cobain. He is the same height (almost 5’10 just like Kurt), has similar enough features, and has the acting chops and music abilities to pull it off. Kurt died at 27, so he is a little older but it’s not a noticeable difference. I’d watch that movie.
Although I’m not very fond of his musical career, Jared Leto is an exceptional actor and I feel like it would be just if he were to portray Cobain in a biopic. Strange thing is…he recently played Mark David Chapman in a film about Mark David Chapman and the assassination of John Lennon. I believe The title of the film is “Chapter 27”, correct me if i’m wrong. This film was interesting, and pays homage to Martin Scorcese’s “Taxi Driver”…
Because of this film, I feel like it’d almost be too predictable and an awkward contrast if he were to take the part of Kurt Cobain in the aforementioned biopic-in-progress.
I have no opinion on James Macavoy, I’m not too familiar with his acting…I will admit that some of the photos of him show a vague resemblance to Kurt, but I remain ambivalent as to whether or not he–or ANYONE else is fit to play the part of Kurt Cobain in a major motion picture biopic.
If an individual can be as passionate and true to character as Joaquin Phoenix was in the Johnny Cash biopic, “Walk the Line”, then I will consider watching the Cobain/Nirvana biopic.
Michael Pitt already kind of did Cobain once and he did a pretty great job actually even though it was only loosely based on the character (though let’s face it, it’s basically him).
