The Cannes Film Festival is so close you practically smell it and with less than two weeks to go, we’ll be getting more and more glimpses and previews of the films that will be walking the red carpet.
In that spirit, a new poster has landed for Lars Von Trier‘s highly anticipated “Melancholia” and it’s a simple, wedding-invitation evoking one-sheet. Starring Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Alexander Skarsgård, Stellan Skarsgård and Udo Kier, the film centers on two sisters and their differing reactions to the impending doom of the planet Earth. Dunst and Alexander Skarsgård will play a married couple who slowly come apart as Dunst accepts the fate of the upcoming end of the world, pulling away from both her work and relationship, and settling into a slower pace of life. On the other hand, her sister, played by Gainsbourg, will be panicking with the looming end of civilization, and eager to protect the fears of her 6-year-old nephew, will try and shield him from their fate. So yeah, another fun time at the arthouse from everyone’s favorite enfant terrible.
Check out the full poster below. The film will be released in the U.K. on September 30th and in the U.S. later this year by Magnolia. [via HeyUGuys]

It looks like a poster for a stage play. I guess LvT wants people to just sit and watch everything become unraveled?
