Lars von Trier Denies Björk’s Sexual Harassment Allegations

Over the weekend, director Lars von Trier was hit by the ripple effect of the allegations against Harvey Weinstein, which has seen women courageously stand up to call out others in the industry who have also overstepped boundaries. Bjork shared that she had been sexually harassed by director Lars von Trier during the making of “Dancer In The Dark,” and says that after he was turned down, he “sulked and punished” her.

The filmmaker has responded to the accusations to Danish newspaper Jylannds Posten denying Bjork’s claims, and praising her performance, as one of the best in any of his films (his exact comments are a bit untranslatable even through Google Translate). von Trier’s producer, however, seems to have had stronger words.

“As far as I remember, we were victims, that woman was stronger than both Lars von Trier and me and our company together,” Peter Aalbaek Jensen said.

Asked for further comment from the paper, von Trier declined, saying that essentially, he didn’t want to start an ongoing back and forth about the issue. However, conversation, dialogue and honesty is exactly what this issue needs. [THR]

-[referring to the charges] That was not the case. But that we were sworn enemies is a fact.
    – In return she gave one of the best performances in any of my movies.

Aalbæk Jensen (von Trier’s producer) goes on to say:
    – As far as I remember, we were the victims. That woman was stronger than both Lars and me and our company together.
    – I am therefore dumbfounded by this [statement].
