Another release date shuffle so get out your calendars and make adjustments as you see fit.
First up, animation house Laika has set a September 26, 2014 date for a currrently untitled movie. It won't be Henry Selick's "Shadow King" which the studio recently passed on following Disney's decision to shutter production, but there are a couple of possibilities. There's the adaptation of Philip Reeves' novel "Goblins" that has “The Fantastic Mr. Fox” animation director Mark Gustafson set to helm. The story follows a well-mannered goblin named Skarper who must assemble his more putrid family of Goblins to help him battle a rising and dangerous evil force. And with the book due to hit shelves stateside next year, a 2014 release for the movie could be a smart play.
Also in the wings is the hipster ready "Wildwood" based on the book from The Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy. The story concerns a young protagonist named Prue McKneel who must navigate a magic-filled alternate version of Portland, Oregon, after her younger brother is kidnapped. This was announced last fall, but there has been very little in the way of updates. Our guess? Given the proximity to Halloween, "Goblins" seems like a surer bet.
Meanwhile, the Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn reteam with "The Internship" has been moved ahead by a few weeks, and is now set to unspool on June 7, 2013. The movie that finds Vaughn and Wilson playing recently downsized men in their forties who try to make it as interns at a successful Internet company where their managers are in their twenties. Hilarity and Blackberry jokes ensue. 20th Century Fox must be feeling pretty pumped about this one as they've set the comedy against Sony's Shyamalan/Smith Family sci-fi joint "After Earth" and Summit's star-studded magician/heist flick "Now You See Me." Which one are you going to line up for first? [BoxOfficeMojo]
Its about time Wilson and Vaughn got back together! Hopefully a Marley & Me prequel can come together too. And don't give me that they already made a Marley & Me : The Puppy Years I'm talking about a prequel for Owens character, back when he "doing bong loads in college".
