Just as live-action Disney remakes ran the risk of becoming extremely stale in the wake of “The Lion King,” the ‘”Lady and the Tramp” remake for Disney+ picked up steam. It became apparent that adorable rescue dogs, voiced by celebrities, would be the focus of the new Disney+ exclusive movie. With Monte the mutt playing the Tramp, this remake is, if nothing else, sure to be an adorable experience. You can now watch the official trailer to experience that cuteness.

Monte’s dog shelter in Las Cruces, CA, gives him near-perfect marks, saying, “He was super friendly, greets people right away, gives kisses, loves attention, he knows how to sit, and walks well on a leash.” This report claims that Monte is an extremely good boy who deserves the utmost attention in his titular role as the Tramp.
Written by indie writer/director Andrew Bujalski (“Support the Girls,” “Funny Ha Ha”), the Disney+ remake looks to take more risks than other recent live-action remakes. Bujalski, likely to bring some off-kilter comedy to the repurposed material, is joined in the music department by Janelle Monae who reinvented “The Siamese Cat Song” for the movie.

The unlikely tonal combination of “Lady and the Tramp” leads one to believe that this will be one of the stranger live-action remakes, which may explain why it found its home exclusively on Disney+. The new streaming site, while investing in large new properties such as “The Mandalorian,” will house many previous Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars entries, making it the prime spot for something as outside-of-the-box as “Lady and the Tramp.”
Here’s the official synopsis:
Lady and the Tramp is set to tell the story of an upper-middle-class American cocker spaniel named Lady who meets a streetsmart, downtown stray mongrel called the Tramp, and the two embark on many romantic adventures including that iconic spaghetti smooch scene.
Directed by Charlie Bean (“The Lego Ninjago Movie“), the voice cast of “Lady And The Tramp” includes the two titular characters, voiced by Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux, plus Kiersey Clemons, Thomas Mann, Yvette Nicole Brown, Adrian Martinez, and Arturo Castro in live-action roles. Sam Elliott, Ashley Jensen, Benedict Wong, and Janelle Monáe fill out the rest of the voice cast and the film debuts on Disney+ on opening day, November 12.
