Last year, actress Blake Lively took a crack at the action genre for Eon Productions with the revenge flick “The Rhythm Section” for director Reed Morano. Now, she is seemingly jumping back into the world of genre films with an adaptation of the Dark Horse Comics property “Lady Killer” for streaming giant Netflix, which she will star in, and produce, according to Deadline.

The project has also hired writer Diablo Cody, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of the wonderful teen pregnancy comedy “Juno,” and the underrated Karyn Kusama horror flick “Jennifer’s Body” to pen the script. Cody is also currently working with Madonna on a biopic of the iconic singer and had been involved with the live-action “Powerpuff Girls” series for CW.

The crux of the “Lady Killer” comic centers on Josie Schuller (Blake Lively), a housewife in the 1950s who has a secret life as a hired killer. Her husband has no idea that the sweet homemaker moonlights as a deadly assassin. Published by Dark Horse in 2015, the comic book is written by Joëlle Jones and Jamie S. Rich, with art from illustrator Joëlle Jones and colorist by Laura Allred.
This won’t be Blake Lively’s first starring role in a comic book adaptation. She played DC Comics heroine Carol Ferris in director Martin Campbell‘s “Green Lantern” movie alongside future husband Ryan Reynolds, who played Hal Jordan. If that film had been successful, she would have ended up getting her own ring and superpowers.
“Lady Killer” came together as part of Netflix’s development deal with Dark Horse Entertainment after previously working together on the popular series “The Umbrella Company” and the Mads Mikkelsen assassin movie “Polar.“
