Disney has been incredibly successful with its string of live-action remakes of popular animated films. Whether it’s “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” or “The Lion King,” the Mouse House has really found a way to take an animated film and put a live-action coat of paint on it and suddenly have a major blockbuster. But for the remake of “Lady and the Tramp,” Disney isn’t looking for big money. Instead, the studio is hoping it’ll drive subscriptions.
As seen in the trailer for the live-action remake of “Lady and the Tramp,” the film isn’t necessarily breaking the mold as far as Disney projects go. Much like the rest of the recent live-action remakes, the latest children’s film follows the same basic story of its original. “Lady and the Tramp” follows the story of two dogs, one rich and the other a stray, as they fall in love and share a plate of spaghetti in a back alley.
However, for “Lady and the Tramp,” audiences won’t be able to purchase a ticket to watch it at their local multiplex. The only way fans of the 1955 classic animated film are going to be able to watch what the live-action film looks like is by paying the subscription fee and logging into Disney+. The Mouse House is hoping that one of its patented retellings will be enough to get folks to give its upcoming streaming service a shot.
“Lady and the Tramp” stars Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux alongside Kiersey Clemons, Thomas Mann, Yvette Nicole Brown, Ken Jeong, and F. Murray Abraham.
“Lady and the Tramp” arrives on Disney+ on November 12.
Here’s the synopsis:
In Disney+’s “Lady and the Tramp,” a timeless re-telling of the 1955 animated classic, a pampered house dog and a tough but lovable stray embark on an unexpected adventure and, despite their differences, grow closer and come to understand the value of home.
