While Kylie Minogue rose to worldwide fame thanks to the breakout album Fever, whose smash hit “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” finally brought the singer the kind of stateside notice Aussie and Europe audiences had already showered on the singer, what many don’t know is that before Minogue strutted her stuff on stages around the world, she got her start as an actress. And for those down under, she is still just as well known for her role on the long running soap opera “Neighbours.” Well, it seems Minogue is taking an earnest stride back into her first profession (and yes, she has taken roles here and there over the years, most notably in Baz Luhrmann‘s “Moulin Rouge“).
With a role already in the can in the forthcoming lesbian werewolf romance (yes, really) “Jack & Diane” starring Juno Temple and Riley Keough, Minogue is going arthouse, taking a part in the new film from Leos Carax “Holly Motors.” The Herald Sun have revealed a look at Minogue in the film, looking like she just stepped off the set of “Pan Am” and apparently she’s already been shooting for several weeks. Huh.
Foreign film fans probably most familiar with Carax’s previous efforts such “Pola X,” “Mauvais Sang” and his segment in the omnibus “Tokyo!” his latest looks both compact and intriguing. Starring Juliette Binoche and Dennis Levant, the story “follows 24 hours in the life of a person who travels between different lives, including that of a murderer, beggar, CEO, monstrous creature and father of a family.” We’d wager the cast is playing multiple roles for each “life” of the lead, so we’d guess Minogue’s part is more than just an airline attendant.
No word on release dates or anything else but it seems the movie is pretty much a no brainer that the film is a strong possibility for Cannes, particularly since Carax was in the mix for the Palme D’or in 2009 for “Pola X” and won Award For The Youth in 1984 for “Boy Meets Girl.” Lesbians, airline attendants…Minogue is certainly throwing curveballs to her classy pop star image and we’ll be curious to see what she takes on next.
matt, what the fuck is your problem?
Yes, I meant \”Fever\” instead of \”X.\” My bad.
Break out album X featuring CGYOOMH???? Get your facts correct, this was here 10th album and the song you referred to came out 10 years before that album. My point is not to correct you on mundane facts about Kylie Minogue, I couldn\’t care less…..my point is, how many other facts in this poorly written article are way off the mark? Your credit is ranking very low indeed.
It\’s good to see Kylie Minogue finally doing movies again. She had a memorable role in Street Fighter (1994) opposite Jean-Claude Van Damme. I hope she does more American mainstream movies from now on.
