Got a Tip?

Krysten Ritter Shuts The Door On Returning As Jessica Jones In The Future: “I Feel Good About Closing The Door”

Even though Netflix unceremoniously cancelled the entirety of its Marvel TV lineup with “Jessica Jones” officially coming to a close a couple of weeks ago, there were those that still wanted to see the cast of “Jessica Jones” and its Netflix/Marvel sister series come back in some sort of reunion on a different platform. But if that ends up happening, it’s going to be without one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle, Krysten Ritter.

Speaking to TV Line, the actress that plays the lead in “Jessica Jones” feels that her time as a Marvel superhero have come to an end. And she’s perfectly okay with that.

“Do I think I’ll play her again? I don’t think so,” Ritter said. “I feel like I’ve played her, you know? I feel really good about it. I feel good about closing the door.”

That finality was shared by the series creator Melissa Rosenberg, who was already slated to leave the show in the future, if the series continued on past Season 3. She said, “I feel like this is a really complete, closed chapter. I mean, never say never. But I feel ready to tell all new stories.”

As we said before, “Jessica Jones” is the last of the Netflix/Marvel series to get the ax. The show was one of four that were originally announced back in 2013 as part of the initial wave of Marvel shows coming to the streaming service. And when compared to its brethren like “Daredevil,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” “The Defenders,” and “The Punisher,” “Jessica Jones” is the show that has consistently been looked at as the gold standard, exploring issues that affect the real world, while also featuring plenty of superheroics.

Ritter was also the breakout star of the whole mini-Marvel Netflix Universe, with her spot-on portrayal of the comic book character. So, with her putting the kibosh on playing the character in the future, those fans who still held out that slight bit of hope that they’d be able to see The Defenders team up once again are seemingly out of luck.

Of course, with comic book characters, reboots are always an option, and Marvel/Disney have plenty of avenues they can use to explore Jessica and her Hell’s Kitchen friends.
