Looking back on Kristen Stewart‘s year, you might wonder if the actress had a moment to sleep. She’s had five films hit cinemas this year — Woody Allen‘s “Café Society,” Olivier Assayas‘ “Personal Shopper,” Kelly Reichardt‘s “Certain Women,” Drake Doremus‘ “Equals” and Ang Lee‘s “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” — and just typing them out made us exhausted. And she’s capping of 2016 by joyously dancing and driving in the new video from The Rolling Stones, “Ride ‘Em On Down.”
Yes, the aging rockers are still going, with their new album Blue & Lonesome in stores today. And to get the attention of youths, they hired director Francois Rousselet to helm this full throttle, sexy, and kinda super corny video. Considering what artists have been doing with the medium lately in terms of making them cinematic, this feels like a throwback to simpler times, but not always in a good way. Still, Stewart having a ball is good fun to watch. [Pitchfork]
Sorry … BFD
Cool song. Cool video.
Equals and Billy Lynn were two huge critical and BO flops. Cafe Society’s WW gross didn’t even top Magic in the Moonlight and it didn’t even break even. Personal Shopper hasn’t opened yet. CW was a critical hit but Williams and Gladstone are getting the awards attention. Maybe she should aim for quality instead of quantity.
I skimmed lots of reviews. Gladstone was the standout. Kristen was the actress partnered with her in the favorite story out of the three short stories in the film. Kristen probably received the 2nd most favorable notices. Most critics liked Williams story the least. She simply was given the least to work with. It is scored at 90% on RT. Cafe Society is at 70% and earned about 21
