Though we have yet to see anything outside of two “Venom” films, Sony is hellbent on making its own universe of Spider-Man-adjacent characters a thing. We have “Morbius” arriving soon, “Madame Web” just found its lead, and various other projects in development, including the upcoming “Kraven the Hunter.” And though this little superhero universe is still in its relative infancy, there are some heavy hitter actors signing on.

According to Deadline, “Kraven the Hunter” continues to attract top-tier talent to its cast with the addition of Christopher Abbott. The actor joins the cast that includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ariana DeBose, Russell Crowe, Alessandro Nivola, and Fred Hechinger in the film from director J.C. Chandor.
In the film, Abbott is expected to play The Foreigner, a villain that readers of the “Spider-Man” comic books will probably be familiar with. He’s a master hand-to-hand fighter with the ability to put people in a quick hypnotic trance. It’s unclear how he’ll be presented in ‘Kraven,’ but the report claims he’ll be the big bad of the film to fight against Taylor-Johnson’s title character.

Abbott is probably best known for his role in the recent “Catch-22” TV series. He’s also shown up in films such as “Brown Bear” and “Possessor.” One of his more exciting future projects is the upcoming “Poor Things” from director Yorgos Lanthimos.
“Kraven the Hunter” is expected to begin production soon and is expected to arrive in theaters on January 13, 2023.
