While Fox waits for Disney or Comcast to buy them out, they aren’t slowing down the development cycle. Heck, having more high profile projects on the go probably only adds more to their #IPvalue, and a new X-Men movie certainly raises eyebrows and maybe adds an extra zero somewhere on the balance sheet.
“Deadpool” director Tim Miller and veteran comics writer Brian Michael Bendis are teaming up for that Kitty Pryde movie at Fox that was announced last month. Miller will direct and Bendis will write the secretive project, which for now, is only being referred to as “143.” Is it a reference to the Christmas themed 1963 Uncanny X-Men issue? A bowling score? Who knows, but let’s pretend it’s the former for now. In the story, Kitty Pryde is home alone at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters during Christmas, when she winds up facing the N’Garai demon. Long story short, it leads to a chase around the entire mansion before she finally defeats it.
Certainly, it sounds like the project is sliding into Fox’s genre-y, lower budget superpowered efforts like the forthcoming “New Mutants,” and brewing efforts like “Multiple Man.” “143,” if they’re using the comic as inspiration, also sounds like it could be a contained thriller like “Panic Room,” which might be a neat way to spin an X-Men flick.
