Sometimes big franchise movies take years to develop, with rumors swirling for months about whether or not a studio will actually take the leap. But then there are times when major blockbuster films come out of nowhere, with a release date a year away, and production beginning in a matter of a few months. Such is the case with the ‘Kingsman’ prequel, tentatively titled “Kingsman: The Great Game.” With production seemingly around the corner, Fox has already begun the casting process, with some big names suiting up.
And by “suiting up,” we literally mean putting on suits, as the spy franchise is known for its lead characters looking quite handsome in perfectly tailored three-piece suits. So, who are these men who are making appointments with their local suit-makers? Collider reports that Rhys Ifans, who recently played the villain in “Amazing Spider-Man 2,” is in talks to join the upcoming prequel, directed by Matthew Vaughn.
Joining Ifans are two other actors that have strong ties to popular franchises. Daniel Brühl, who villained it up in “Captain America: Civil War,” and Charles Dance, the man who fathered some horrible people on “Game of Thrones,” have also joined the cast. And lastly, rumored to be joining these three men is another dapper actor, Matthew Goode, who, yes, played a villain in the “Watchmen” film.
Not only has Vaughn found four quality actors for roles in the film, but also four people who are maybe best known for their villainous work. Interesting, indeed. These gentlemen join Ralph Fiennes and Harris Dickinson in the cast.
Plot details are scarce for the prequel, but it’s said that ‘The Great Game’ will be set 100 years before the events of the previous two ‘Kingsman’ films. And the report states that the tone of the film is more “period drama” than “spy thriller.” So, take that for what its worth.

And yes, production on this prequel is coming soon, with the studio eyeing a January start date. That seems about right considering the film is also slotted for a November 9, 2019 release. “Kingsman: The Great Game” is proof that sometimes major big-budget films get put together very, very quickly.
Oh, and for those waiting for the further adventures of Eggsy and Harry Hart, aka Taron Egerton and Colin Firth, never fear! Vaughn is prepping the proper “Kingsman 3” for 2019, as well. According to Collider, the director wants to begin production on that film in the last half of 2019, with a 2020 release. Lots of ‘Kingsman’ in our future, that’s for sure.
