Got a Tip?

Kevin Feige Says That ‘Ant-Man & The Wasp’ Sets Up Legacy Characters For Future MCU Films

While “Ant-Man & The Wasp” might not have the strong MCU ties that something like “Avengers: Infinity War” does, it appears that some seeds are being planted that very well might lead to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At least, if you believe Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige.

In a recent interview with Heroic Hollywood, Feige was asked about the future of the MCU and more specifically, if some younger characters from the Marvel Universe might get their time to shine. Feige was asked about the possibility of new characters such as the Young Avengers, or as we’ve seen on the small screen, Cloak & Dagger or Runaways.

“Well…sure. And both of those you just mentioned we talked about for a long time and they went over to be successful TV shows. We’ve always been fans of Power Pack and figuring that out. And yes. So…where and when we would see the evolution of that? I don’t know. And certainly – taking our cue from the comics as we always do – that’s why we wanted Cassie, a very young Cassie in this movie, to be inspired by her father. Just planting seeds,” admitted Feige.

Of course, this is far from a guarantee that a “Power Pack” film or “Young Avengers” is on the horizon, but it does appear that the producer is thinking about it. And yes, in “Ant-Man & The Wasp,” there’s a slight reference to the idea of passing the mantle on between Scott Lang and his daughter Cassie. And if you’re a bit Marvel nerd (like me), you know that in the comics, Cassie Lang grows up to become the hero Stature, who much like her father in the film, is able to grow to huge heights.

For those that aren’t familiar with the other name mentioned, Power Pack, the short answer is that Power Pack is a group of four young siblings with superpowers. When and where is clearly TBD, but it does sound like the future of the MCU might just be in legacy characters and the young heroes that are inspired by the current crop of Avengers.

  1. The great thing for Kevin Feige is there’s so much backlog with comic books that ANYTHING can be a hint setting up some other goddamn franchise.
Movie Websites: Kevin Feige says new movie hints at possible new characters! In the movie, our hero is seen drinking a Starbucks coffee. In the comic book universe there is a hero named Caffeinated! Could this be what they’re hinting at?

  2. If Power-Pack and Young Avengers are the big legacy characters they hope to set up then they might as well toss them into the Netflix pile along with second and third-tier characters like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. The flagship heroes retiring/ending their contracts means the Golden Era is over.

  3. it’s over Kevin. You are going to have to accept that it’s over. People have already lost interest in the MCU & the second Infinity Wars 2 is done, you no longer have anything to offer.
