Been wondering what happened to Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of the Marvel Norse god hero, “Thor”?
The last few developments were casting rumors (Natalie Portman as a possible love interest, Josh Harnett, possibly as the mischevious diety brother Loki, Alex Skarsgard potentially as the hero himself, TK) and the fact that the movie’s release date was delayed a year which didn’t sound great on paper (it moved from a summer 2010 release to a summer 2011 release). Apparently Branagh also wrote an incomprehensibly long version of the script at one point.
Well, according to the director himself, the plan is to shoot the film in January 2010.
“Well, I’m working currently on Thor for Marvel and we’re planning that one. We’re having a great time at the moment. We’re in intense pre-production,” Branagh told IGN who initially asked about a TV epic project called “Wallander” that the director stars in. “I shoot Thor in January of next year and because the time of release has been moved, it’s allowed me to have a moment in the summer where I can shoot the Wallanders. And, strangely, there’s a weird, pleasing connection between the Swedish Wallander and the Nordic Thor. And as I’ve played a lot of Danish Hamlets, I feel as though my Scandinavian trilogy is forming.”
Branagh also notes that “Wallander” co-star Tom Hiddleston is also one of the actors vying for the coveted role of “Thor,” but apparently a large group of actors are still being considered.
“Thor” is currently scheduled for release June 17, 2011.
