Even with fewer films opening n theaters, it’s still somewhat frustrating that certain releases seem to be falling under the radar with audiences. One of the films that deserves a lot more attention than it’s received so far is Mona Fastvold‘s “The World To Come,” starring Katherine Waterston, Vanessa Kirby, Casey Affleck, and Christopher Abbott. That’s why it was something of a joy to sit down with Waterston to have a conversation about the period piece and the state of the world for the latest episode of the Four Quadrant podcast.
Set in the 1850s in the wilderness of far upstate New York, “The World to Come” centers on Abigail (Waterston), a woman still suffering from the loss of her small child. She doesn’t necessarily have a warm relationship with her husband Dyer (Affleck), a struggling farmer. Instead, their marriage seems more like a business arrangement more than anything else. When Tallie (Kirby) and her husband Finney (Abbott) move nearby her life begins to change in ways she wouldn’t have expected.
During our conversation, Waterston was asked if she could give a tease about the third “Fantastic Beasts” film which is still in production.
She thinks for a moment and replies earnestly, “There’s snow in it? You feel like someone is going to kill you when someone asks you about these films. Like there’s a hitman in your backyard.”
And that’s about all we got on that in what was a spirited discussion overall.
