Got a Tip?

Kate Hudson Reinvents Herself As An Action Star For ‘Everly’

nullTo say that Kate Hudson hasn’t lived up to her fullest potential in the past decade is a bit of an understatement; while she was great as the heartbreaking band aide Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe’s classic “Almost Famous,” she’s been mostly reduced to fare like “My Best Friend’s Girl,” "The Skeleton Key,” and “How To Lose A Guy in Ten Days” over the past few years. We’ll try to remember her more recent work in “The Killer Inside Me” over the abysmal trailer for “A Little Bit of Heaven,” but all that may not matter now as it looks as if Hudson is about to dramatically revamp her blonde bombshell image.

Hudson is now set to star in director Joe Lynch’s “Everly,” from a List-approved script based on an idea by Lynch and penned by Yale Hannon. Hudson will play a woman trapped in her apartment, fending off waves of assassins sent by her ex-boyfriend, a mob boss out to get the down-on-her-luck woman. Kind of sounds like "The Raid" meets "Haywire" or something — at best. It’s the latest project from Adam Ripp and Rob Paris' Crime Scene Pictures, who were also on producing duties for the Coen Brothers scripted remake of “Gambit” with Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz; the project will be looking for buyers at the European Film Market next week.

As for Lynch, for those unfamiliar with the director, perhaps his most recognizable claim to fame is the Ryan Kwanten-starring “Knights of Badassdom.” The trailer for that one debuted to much praise at last year’s Comic-Con, but the film is still waiting to be released. Lynch has also helmed the surprisingly imaginative straight-to-DVD horror sequel “Wrong Turn 2: Dead End,” had the most memorable segments of the recent indie horror anthology “Chillerama,” and will even be doing a little acting of his own this April on the Fear Net original show “Holliston.” Looks like Lynch is a director looking for his break, and while fanboys wait for the LARP-friendly 'Knights,' we can anticipate what will hopefully be an enjoyable actioner in “Everly.”
