I’m not sure who is still watching these “Underworld” movies, but somehow we’re at entry number five in the franchise that continues to have fresh blood. I suppose vampires versus werewolves is a pretty easy concept to sell, and certainly, there is an audience that continues to make these viable movies for Sony to throw money at. Of course, Kate Beckinsale is back in her skin-tight outfit, this time on a new mission to kick ass and save vampires from extinction. Also returning is the film’s permanently blue/black color palette that makes it impossible to see anything. Here’s the official synopsis:
Under the new leadership of Marius, the Lycans have increased in numbers and strength and have decimated many of the vampire covens throughout the world. With the Vampire race being on the brink of extinction, it is up to Selene to save the very coven which banished her and hunted her down as a criminal. Selene must become stronger than ever to defeat what’s in store for her next.
Directed by Anna Foerster, and also featuring Theo James, Tobias Menzies and Lara Pulver, “Underworld: Blood Wars” hits the big screen on January 6, 2017.
