Got a Tip?

Kali Reis To Star Alongside Jodie Foster In ‘True Detective: Night Country’ From Writer-Director Issa López

The “True Detective” franchise has been stumbling on HBO for a while now. The first season is one of the most beloved series to hit TV over the last 10 years. Seasons 2 and 3, however… not so much. Clearly, it was time for HBO to go in a different direction if the network hoped to bring back “True Detective” for Season 4. And it appears that’s exactly what is happening with “True Detective: Night Country.”

According to HBO, Season 4 of “True Detective” is officially a go with ‘Night Country’ going into production soon. We already knew that Season 4 would star Jodie Foster, but now we know that she will co-star alongside actress Kali Reis in the series. And instead of “True Detective” creator, Nic Pizzolatto, behind the scenes, the creation of Season 4 is now in the hands of filmmaker, Issa López. And the plot? Well, let’s just say we’re getting serious “The Thing” vibes.

Here’s the synopsis for Season 4 of “True Detective”:

When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.

Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming said, “We are tremendously excited to return to the ‘True Detective’ franchise and to be working with the multi-talented Issa López, whose singular vision for her ‘Night Country’ installment will be beautifully realized with Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in the starring roles.”

Reis recently broke out in a big way thanks to her starring role in the indie drama, “Catch the Fair One.” López is probably best known for her thriller, “Tigers Are Not Afraid.” She’s one of the most intriguing filmmakers working today and brings a totally new vibe to the “True Detective” world. And since this is a series in desperate need of reinvigoration, López is an exciting prospect.

A release date for “Night Country” has yet to be announced, but filming is expected to begin soon in Iceland.
