Got a Tip?

‘Jurassic World’ Producer Confirms Film Franchise Will Continue After ‘Dominion’

On paper, you would assume “Jurassic World: Dominion” would be the end of the franchise. Not only is it supposed to end the ‘World’ trilogy, but it also brings back all three of the main characters from the original “Jurassic Park” in an “Avengers: Endgame”-esque culmination. But this is 2022, and you know full well that the ‘Jurassic’ franchise isn’t going away anytime soon. And thanks to a ‘Jurassic’ producer, we know for certain the franchise will be continuing after ‘Dominion.’

Speaking to /Film, ‘Jurassic’ producer Frank Marshall talked about the future of the dinosaur franchise. And yes, we’re talking  about the future, past when we get the June release of “Jurassic World: Dominion.” You see, the new film is definitely the end of this trilogy, but there’s no way the film franchise is going to end now.

“I think that ‘Dominion’s’ going to wrap up this trilogy, but we’re not resting on our laurels,” said Marshall. “We’re going to sit down, and we’re going to see what the future is. We have that wonderful series, ‘Camp Cretaceous,’ on Netflix. We obviously want to make quality, good movies with great storytelling, great writers and directors, but we’re definitely looking to do more in the ‘Jurassic’ world.”

Don’t be sorry if you haven’t seen “Camp Cretaceous.” The animated series is aimed squarely at children and isn’t something that many film fans are probably aware of unless they have little ones. That said, it would appear that the producers of the ‘Jurassic’ franchise are ready to move on from the ‘World’ trilogy and venture into new ground. What that might look like is anyone’s guess, however.

It will be interesting to see where the franchise goes after ‘Dominion.’ The new trilogy has been squarely in the “legacy franchise” territory since the release of “Jurassic World” in 2015, where we see a retread of the similar story with new characters and some brief appearances of classic fan-favorites. If there’s a new trilogy past ‘Dominion,’ you would have to assume the producers would want to break new ground and really take the franchise in a new direction. But we all know studios are very risk-averse. So who knows?

“Jurassic World: Dominion” is expected to hit theaters on June 10.
