While we’re generally not keen on the idea of remakes, if there’s a good idea we’ll listen to it. And we have to say, this is a pretty damn good idea.
THR reports that "Veep" star Julia Louis-Dreyfus is in negotiations to star in a remake of Ruben Östlund‘s "Force Majeure." The Golden Globe nominee and winner of the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, the movie tells a story that could be out of an alternate universe episode of "Seinfeld." It follows a man who deserts his family when an avalanche threatens them all during a vacation at a snowy resort. It’s kinda like when George Costanza ran out of the children’s birthday party when a kitchen fire sparked up. Yes, Östlund’s film is a drama, but it also features a streak of super dry humor which Louis-Dreyfus could be pitch perfect for.
Things are still in the pretty early stages, with no director or screenwriter yet linked to the project, which is set up at Fox Searchlight. But perhaps this is a good time to track down the Swedish film if you haven’t yet. Here’s our review.
Americans have to get their hands on everything don\’t they
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! A remake?! Östlund\’s film was so amazing because it didn\’t play for laughs or had his actors mugging for the camera.
Had no idea this was a thing. The original is so good. Very uncomfortable to watch sometimes. It\’s on Netflix now.
Force Majeure wasn\’t nominated for an Academy Award.
