Has HBO gone ahead and greenlit a third season of "Girls" before the second one has even aired? Either that or Lena Dunham is making some very expensive home movies, but according to producer Judd Apatow work is beginning soon on a third season of the hit show.
The writer/director is beginning to make the rounds for his forthcoming "This Is 40," and recently dropped in on Dave Poland for an extensive interview. As their chat wound down, Apatow revealed what he's up to next on his always busy calendar. "We're about to shoot the third season of 'Girls' — season 2 starts in January — and I'm producing 'Anchorman 2' which shoots in March," he said. Uh, okay. It doesn't get much more clear than that, and with new episodes around the corner, surely HBO will make some kind of formal announcement soon.
Meanwhile, Apatow's update on "Anchorman 2" is intriguing. The film has been promoted with a 2013 release date — possibly Christmas — but a March would require a very fast turnaround. Is it still possible? Sure. But let's hope everyone is given plenty of time to riff, improv and generally be hilarious. We've waited this long for the return of Ron Burgundy, so let's give him room to play. Until we know more, watch the full interview with Apatow below.
Lena Dunham is awesome and Tiny Furniture is a great movie. Sadly, there are lots of people these days who can't seem to recognize honest, personal, fearless writing.
Still no mention of here 3.7 million $ book deal ? "Did we tell you the name of the game boooy".
I want to thumbs up/like/promote/+ Kevin's comment.
Fuck off! Dunham is great!
In-depth interviews with Judd Apatow are the best.
I can't stand dunham either in the slightest. If you thought Tarantino was self indulgent and important, you haven't met her. Dunham is the single most smug 'filmmaker' working today. I would rather watch joe Swanberg full frontal and his mumblecore masturbation, then watch 1 episode of girls.
As a cinephile nothing saddens/infuriates me more than the success of Lena Dunham, currently the holder of "the single worst film in the entire Criterion collection catalog" title.
