MTV reports more casting for Joss Whedon’s (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse) new maximum horror movie “The Cabin in the Woods.” Joining previously reported stars Academy Award-nominated Richard Jenkins (“Step Brothers,” “The Visitor”) and Bradley Whitford (“Bottle Shock,” The West Wing) are the slew of younger unknown actors you expect in this genre including Kristen Connelly (“Confessions of a Shopaholic”), Chris Hensworth (“Star Trek”), Anna Hutchison (who was apparently the yellow Power Ranger for awhile), Fran Kranz (of Whedon’s own Dollhouse) and of course the dark skinned guy who gets killed early (we assume) Jesse Williams.
Whedon teamed with “Cloverfield” writer Drew Goodard to pen this “horror movie to end all horror movies” script and they’ve been working hard to keep the exact plot under wraps. Of course, this means /film couldn’t stop themselves from posting spoilers. From what they say it seems this is less a revolutionary horror flick and more a melting pot of every single horror cliche and possibility. In Whedon style it seems every kind of monster is thrown into the stew – vampires, zombies and aliens oh my! Basically it sounds like old guys pulling the strings of a bunch of kids to ultimately kill them all for their own amusement – a sort of “Saw” meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
THR further reports that the film’s release has been pushed back to February 2010, so you’ll have to wait until next year to get your mind blown. At least you know what you’re doing for Valentine’s 2010!
