It was about a month ago when something a little bit ugly came out from behind the smiling, mega-successful Marvel — their talent wasn’t quite happy. Specifically, the talent they would need for “The Avengers 2” was beginning to bite. With Robert Downey Jr.’s contract up for Marvel, and news that he bagged a cool $50 million from “The Avengers” thanks to a nice little back-end arrangement, the cast members on the superhero sequel have begun to ask for more than the peanuts Marvel usually shells out. What’s more, RDJ is supporting his colleagues in getting what’s owed to them. And while Kevin Feige has suggested other actors could carry the Iron Man torch, Whedon is not convinced.
“He is Iron Man,” Whedon told The Daily Beast. “He is Iron Man in the way that Sean Connery was James Bond. I have no intention of making ‘Avengers 2’ without him, nor do I think I’ll be called upon to do that. I don’t think it’s in my interest, Marvel’s interest, or his interest, and I think everything will be fine.”
You know what? We think everything will be fine too, for the simple fact that no one is going to want to see “The Avengers 2” without Iron Man/Tony Stark or with someone like, I dunno, Paul Walker subbing in there instead. But perhaps the real question we should start asking is what heroines could Whedon be working in, because he clearly wants more female representation on the comic scene.
“Toymakers will tell you they won’t sell enough, and movie people will point to the two terrible superheroine movies that were made and say, You see? It can’t be done. It’s stupid, and I’m hoping ‘The Hunger Games’ will lead to a paradigm shift,” Whedon said. “It’s frustrating to me that I don’t see anybody developing one of these movies. It actually pisses me off. My daughter watched ‘The Avengers’ and was like, ‘My favorite characters were the Black Widow and Maria Hill,’ and I thought, Yeah, of course they were.”
Well, The Scarlet Witch is already confirmed to be in the script for “The Avengers 2” (though Bryan Singer also using the character for “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” could be a problem), and perhaps Whedon will rework The Wasp into the movie, whom he had in early drafts of “The Avengers” before she was replaced by Black Widow.
Anyone in particular that you want to see Whedon bring in the from the comics who isn’t a dude? Let us know below. “The Avengers 2” still has a long way to go, and isn’t slated to hit theaters until May 1, 2015. [via The Wrap]
I would like to see the following cast in Avengers 2. But here's hoppin: Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, (TAKE OUT ALL SHIELD AGENTS EXCEPT FOR NICK FURY! MEANING NO COULSEN NO HILL NO WIDOW AND NOW HAWK! THANK YOU!), ant-man, wasp, doctor strange, black panther. TAKE OUT QUICKSILVER AND SCARLET WITCH! THEY HAVE NO PLACE IN THE MOVIE! Put wolverine and spiderman instead. Avi Arad said he would be glad to negociate the possibility.
I'd love to see Mockingbird and Hawkeye on the big screen.
Would love to see She-Hulk, would be nice for Bruce to finally meet his cousin. Barring that, Wasp or Psylocke would be great additions.
Just make sure Jennifer Lawrence is playing her
Or Christina Hendricks
To see the true amazon Wonder Woman would be divine.
Women who could be used in the Avengers:
Patsy Walker AKA Hellcat
Tigra
Moondragon
Jocasta
Mockingbird
Mantis
Firestar
Photon
Silverclaw
I agree with some of you guys, i think they should bring Carol Danvers aka Ms. Marvel. In the comics they already "transformed" the charecter a little bit, as Captain Marvel now, she's not semi-nude anymore, I think this is a preparation for the charecter to the live-action movies.
I'd love to see Captain Marvel (The Carol Danvers version). I also think the way she is written and her personality currently fits really well with Whedon's voice.
The whole world's going to show up for the sequel. That means plenty of pie for all. Just pay everyone and get to work.
Setted up
Any actor that decides, by courage or kind, to fill in the made-for-no-one-but RDJ role in Iron Man is being grossly stepped up. Nobody, I mean NOBODY, can possibly embody the role as RDJ does. The only actor that can attempt to match Downey's excellence in the role is George Clooney… but he doesn't comes cheap either. As a Nigerian, I wish Marvel success in their search and of course the actor who decides to take up the role.
I love how Whedon pushes the heroines! He is so about Woman Power!
Buffy. Buffy should be in Avengers 2. ; )
So, Robert Downey Jr is irreplaceable as Iron Man, the way that Sean Connery was irreplaceable as James Bond … am I mistaken or did the James Bond franchise continue just fine without Connery? Perhaps Whedon should have picked a different example.
Ms. Marvel would be good.
Point of fact: Bryan Singer has never indicated that he has any plans to use Scarlet Witch in "Days of Future Past."
