Joseph Gordon-Levitt is coming to Apple TV+, as the tech company continues to bank on big names to drive subscriptions to its upcoming streaming service.
According to Variety, Gordon-Levitt has agreed to write, produce, and star in the upcoming drama series “Mr. Corman” for Apple. The series is said to follow an elementary school teacher in LA that is struggling to come to terms with his adulthood. Gordon-Levitt is expected to produce the series through his HitRECord production company along with assistance from none other than A24.
This isn’t the first time that Gordon-Levitt has worked on developing a TV series. For years, the actor was attached as one of the creative driving forces behind the long-awaited ‘Sandman’ comic book adaptation that was being worked on with Warner Bros. Just recently, however, it was announced that ‘Sandman’ was coming to Netflix as a series but without the involvement of Gordon-Levitt.
The actor is probably best known for his roles in films like “Looper,” “500 Days of Summer,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Inception,” and “50/50.” He has the film “7500” coming out later this year and is scheduled to begin production on the highly-anticipated film “The Trial of the Chicago 7” shortly.
No word on a timetable for “Mr. Corman,” as Apple has been tight-lipped about just about everything in regards to its streaming service. What we do know is that Apple TV+ is set to be launched in the fall and will have major titles featuring actors like Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, Hailee Steinfeld, and Jason Momoa.
Of course, Apple is going to need all the star power it can get if it wants to compete with behemoths like Netflix, Disney, and Warner Bros. in the great Streaming Wars.
