Got a Tip?

Jonas Brothers “Burnin’ Up” for a Flatulent Canine

High-brow comedy be damned. Alex Sokolow and Joel Cohen (the other one), the writing team behind such gems as “Garfield” and its sequel, “Cheaper by the Dozen” and, somewhat incongruously,Toy Story,” are currently at work on a vehicle for Disney’s other megawatt teen stars, the Jonas Brothers.

20th Century Fox has confirmed that Nick, Joe and Kevin, who initially rose to fame as Miley Cyrus’ backing band before becoming stars in their own right, will appear in a film adaptation of the improbably popular “Walter the Farting Dog” series of children’s books. Also featuring Frankie, the youngest Jonas, the movie follows the band who will play–shock!–a group of musicians who inherit the gassy dog from their dying aunt. Sounds hilarious.

Gross-out meisters the Farrelly Brothers are attached to direct, which should lend the entire picture the sort of quiet nobility that you’d expect from a movie about a gasbag dog. Though early reports are slim, director Peter Farrelly has said that Frankie is the only brother impervious to the dog’s noxious odors due to a sinus infection. This leads to the youngest brother and the dog getting into various mischief–including the rescue of a koi and battling jewel thieves–whilst the older brothers play music. Perhaps this will lend the whole thing a sort of Hope/Crosby musical road comedy feel. But, you know, with a farting dog.
