While the SXSW lineup was stacked this year, no film bowled over The Playlist team in Austin like “Bridesmaids.” One of our seven favorite films from the festival, we called it “hilarious and heartfelt,” adding that it “even touches upon some Mike Leigh-like class issues in its surprisingly weighty story.” Not too bad at all. And now, an international trailer for the film has arrived and once again, it delivers some big laughs.
The spot kicks off with an awesome asshole-ish Jon Hamm laying in bed the morning after with Kristen Wiig and we’ll let you discover the rest, but it’s pretty awkward post-coitus conversation. Boasting a massive ensemble cast led by Wiig (who co-wrote the film) with Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Jill Clayburgh, Matthew Lucas, Chris O’Dowd, Ellie Kemper, Melissa McCarthy and Wendy McLendon-Covey, the film centers on Annie (Wiig), a simple and single 30-something Midwestern girl (with a poor dating track record) who is asked to be her best friend Lillian’s (Rudolph) maid of honor. However, having never done the job, she struggles to please the snobby, rich bridesmaids at every pre-wedding event. One of Lillian’s best friends is essentially the bridesmaid from hell (Byrne) — who attempts to take over the maid of honor duties from the inexperienced Annie.
Anyway, believe us, this rules. The film opens on May 13th — check out the spot below.
That \”round bridesmaid\” was great on Gilmore Girls!
Wiig and Hamm are okay in my book but the slob from Reno 911 and the round bridesmaid make me sick.
I hope this movie does really well and that Paul Feig & the cast can have long successful careers
