Got a Tip?

Johnny Depp’s ‘Thin Man’ Has Eva Green, Amy Adams, Emma Stone, Carey Mulligan, Rachel Weisz, Kristen Wiig, Emily Blunt & Isla Fisher Battling For Co-Starring Role

nullSo, who's gonna be the lucky lady to star opposite Johnny Depp in this brewing remake/reboot of "The Thin Man"? Well, no surprise that the biggest actor on the planet has his pick of leading ladies.

Deadline reports that (deep breath) Eva Green, Amy Adams, Emma Stone, Carey Mulligan, Rachel Weisz, Kristen Wiig, Emily Blunt and Isla Fisher are among those meeting with director Rob Marshall next week to try to land the gig. Of all the contenders, Green may have the slight edge, having worked alongside him recently in "Dark Shadows" (and if you believe the tabloids, was responsible for wooing him from Vanessa Paradis). But she might not have the comic timing or experience that folks like Stone, Wiig, Blunt, Fisher and even Weisz can bring. Stone is all fresh-faced enthusiasm and poised to become huge after "The Amazing Spider-Man" this summer, while Mulligan seems the odd duck in this group.

The film will go back to Dashiell Hammet's books that originally inspired the six beloved films that starred William Powell and Myrna Loy. "The Thin Man" follows Nick Charles, who marries into money, becomes a charming alcoholic and teams up with his socialite wife Nora to solve a murder. The film has a script from Billy Ray that was recently rewritten by David Koepp, and we guess all this activity means it's Depp's next project. So who should Depp and Marshall pick?

  1. I think Amy Adams,Isla Fisher or Rachel Weisz are better, because those three have done comic characters before. and if you would pick one of those three ISLA FISHER is the best for comic roles ,ISLA FISHER might even become a hot property if she acts opposite JOHNNY DEPP

  2. Oh I don't know. This project could very easily crash and burn. Myrna Loy and William Powell were so perfect I don't know if anyone could do them justice but considering all the ladies here… Emma Stone definitely looks the part and she is funny but she's pretty young and I'm not sure if she has that maturity to pull it off. Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Rachel Weisz and Isla Fisher are all possibles for me but I don't really know Eva Green, I don't like Kristen Wiig and Carey Mulligan, although very talented, does not fit in here. Just my thoughts.

  3. Amy Adams was the first actress that popped into my mind when I first read about this projects months and months ago. She can do the polish and sophistication but she has the comedic background to pull of the quirky fun bits of the Thin Man series. I think she's rock it and am happy to see her name made the short (rumor) list. And I'm a huge fan of the Thin Man movies.

  4. I say bring in a new actress to keep the costs down and HELLO here i am, all the other eight women who are up for a chance in the role can be my extras so sit down ladies, lyricgirl Helen has arrived LOL…. Johnny Depp let's get this show on the road and bring your guitar for our intervals so we can write SWEET SWEET MUSIC TOGETHER xXx

  5. Eva Green should get this role! And if there's any justice in this world…she will (okay, guys..I don't mean that literally), but PLEASE..PLEASE. Oh, Emily Blunt would be a nice alternative. She's another of my favorite actresses.

  6. Eva Green is beautiful, aristocratic, brilliant and funny – just like Nora. She had a couple comedic moments in Casino Royale and looks to have given a wonderful performance in Dark Shadows where she nailed an American accent. Isla Fisher is also amazing – I couldn't believe how she overcame her heavy Australian accent to sound like a girl from Oklahoma in Rango. She's very talented. None of the rest seem like Nora to me, especially Blunt & Wiig.

  7. No contest, Rachel Weisz to the 100 degree. With Weisz on board, i would have more faith in the project, not to mention the fact that she would make her and Johnny Depp feel like human beings, not cartoon characters like Depp's last few films.

  8. You need a real actress to play it with a sassy, carefree yet smart outlook. That was Nora Charles and she was played that way by Myrna Loy. the only actress here who can played that is Rachel Weisz, not to mention the fact that she's probably the only actress who can match Johnny Depp in the acting department.

  9. Weisz all the way. She has both the looks and acting skills to stand up next to Depp. If you doubt of her comedy timing, then you haven't seen The Brothers Bloom.

  10. Amy Adams is so far the best choice IMO. The Thin Man with William Powell and Myrna Loy was about an idel rich couple who liked to solve crimes. Depp has the skill to pull of Nick Charles and Adams has proven repeatedly capable when playing quirky characters of the pre-war era, I site Ms.Peddigrew Lives for a Day as a brilliant example of her skill. Stone has similar skill, but I think her youth would detract the audience from the performance. Emily Blunt is also another strong contender, but I still believe Adams is the best fit for the character. All one has to do is watch how Loy played Nora and it would become evident.

  11. This is such a random mix of women. Isla Fisher seems like the best bet since (great actress/solid acting chops/proven comedic talent) and she's worked with Depp on Rango. Stone, Blunt, and Wiig's stock looks to have REALLY risen if they're in competition with an Oscar winner (Weiz) and Oscar nominees (Mulligan, Adams). I'm just glad Blake Lively and Jessica Biel's people didn't find a way to get her name on this list.
