Got a Tip?

Johnny Depp Won’t Be In Wes Anderson’s ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ After All

nullJude Law, Bill Murray, Angela Lansbury? Yep. Johnny Depp? It looks like he won't be checking into "The Grand Budapest Hotel" after all.

While reports this summer had the actor set to star in Wes Anderson's next film, it looks like they might been erroneous from the start. Chatting with the Huffington Post, the director revealed that while he does have all of his players lined up, he's not going to tell you who they are, but Depp isn't one of them. "You know, the Internet has a way of announcing things on its own [laughs]. You will find that even though I'm very aware of the cast that has been announced on its own devices, you'll never find me saying who's in the movie. Or, as far as I know, anybody else. I really don't know where it all comes from," he said. "In fact, Johnny is somebody who I would love to work with at some point, but he's not going to be in this movie. But I actually have not put the cast out — I have not announced the cast. We have quite a great cast."

Among other rumored actors mentioned for the Euro-set film, that will shoot in Germany, have been his previous collaborators Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe and Owen Wilson. It remains to be seen if they will be returning, but considering that both Law and Lansbury were also actors mentioned in early reports, we'd say it's a safe bet. But hopefully more details will be revealed soon, as the movie gears up to start lensing.

  1. So the film just improved significantly….excellent news! Quite looking forward to "Pirates 14" and the Brady Bunch reboot starring Depp as 'Alice'. Seriously though, sad to see an actor whose quirks once enhanced a film take on quirky roles that simply overwhelm a film.

  2. There's something odd about Depp's career, like he's forced to star in Disney movies after Disney movies. It's not like he desperately needs all that money. Look at Brad Pitt, he's making interesting choices, but Depp seems only interesting in two things : Disney and Tim Burton.

  3. Well, that's too bad, but as long as the great Angela Lansbury is on board I won't be upset about any casting changes (although, hopefully all of the other reported cast is in).
