Got a Tip?

Johnny Depp To Direct Keith Richards Documentary

Johnny Depp is reportedly set to to return to directing with a documentary on his Jack Sparrow inspiration, The Rolling Stone’s guitarist Keith Richards.

Richards ended up playing Depp’s father in the “Pirates Of The Carribean” franchise with their relationship now leading to the recent announcement by Depp of plans to once again go behind the camera for a documentary on the Rolling Stone.

“Now that I’m wiser, and that enough time has passed, I can experience directing again,” Depp explains to the European media. “Already next week I’ll start working on a Keith Richards documentary. While I’m in Drvengrad, my editor is already working on kilometers of archive footage and footage of his concerts. I’m very touched that Keith agreed to show up in front of my cameras.”

Depp’s last effort was 1997’s “The Brave” starring Marlon Brando (and himself) which played the Cannes Film Festival and TIFF, but was evidently so poor, it never received proper distribution in the U.S. (in fact, it does take some hunting down if you’re trying to purchase it in North America, but all of it is on YouTube if you have that kind of patience or you can buy it in the U.K.). In fact, we’ll still remember a friend who saw it at TIFF that year and marveled about how mediocre it was. Perhaps, by his own admission, he’s ready to direct once more. Now, over a decade later, an intimate look at the colorful Richards through Depp’s eyes proves to be a fascinating prospect.

Here’s a trailer for “The Brave” by the way.

  1. Because I'm sure Johnny Depp leaked this to Vladimir Ivanascoop of The Transylvania Times on Monday. Though perhaps Depp's conducting an experiment on how fast "news" travels on the intraweb. Don't believe everything you read people!

  2. Why is it so hard to believe? Such a weird thing for someone to seemingly have such a bug up their ass about. Are you his agent and this seems hard to believe? Was the two of them on Rolling Stone's cover not evident of a friendship that could lead to this? Is it that hard to fathom, and if so, why? Odd that you seem so offended people might believe major news stories or that Johnny Depp would be obligated to speak to some elitist press as opposed to whomever got to him on a shoot where ever he is. Seems like a normal logical story, and not anything to be snobbing people's ability to decipher facts. Take a percocet and chillax –
