Listen, I don’t even want to think about Christmas, let alone what movies are coming in 2019, but such is the way of the world now. But at least the good news is that it’s two movies worth looking forward to.
First up, “John Wick: Chapter Three” will kill everybody on May 17, 2019. Of course, it’s too early for plot details and all that jazz, but when we last saw the titular assassin, he was on the run, with a mighty bounty on his head, and literally every marksman in New York City gunning for him like big game prey. Will John Wick survive? The answer is probably “yes,” and we can’t wait to see how he gets out of this mess, the only thing is, he won’t be able to rely on the services of the Continental this time around, having flagrantly broken the rules in “John Wick: Chapter Two.”
Before that film arrives, James Gray will drop his sci-fi “Ad Astra” on January 11, 2019. Starring Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, and Ruth Negga, the film will find Pitt playing Roy McBride, a slightly autistic space engineer who embarks on a one-way trip to Neptune to find out why his father’s previous mission to find signs of intelligent life failed. If the release date seems like a dumping zone, I’d wouldn’t worry about it. I’d presume that if the film lives up to its potential, Paramount will plot an awards season limited release in late 2018, before going wide in 2019. It’s pretty standard operating procedure.
So, if you have a calendar for 2019 already, mark these down, and see you at the movies.
