John Carpenter Calls Rob Zombie A “Piece Of S—” For Lying About Him

A shot fired this spring by John Carpenter is now landing with some impact as his comments about Rob Zombie, and his remake of “Halloween,” are starting to make the rounds. In short, Carpenter not only didn’t like the 2007 redo, he calls out Zombie for making up a story that he didn’t give the filmmaker his blessing to tackle the classic horror flick.

“He lied about me,” the director said during a talk in April at the New York Film Academy. “He said I was very cold to him when he told me he was going to make it. Nothing could be further from the truth. I said, ‘Make it your own movie, man. This is yours now. Don’t worry about me.’ I was incredibly supportive. Why that piece of s— lied, I don’t know.”

In the end, Carpenter didn’t like the movie anyway, saying, “I thought he took away the mystique of the story by explaining too much about [Michael Myers].” And that’s a feeling that perhaps many fans would share.

As for the franchise, it’s going to get another fresh coat of paint, with Carpenter executive producing a new version of the film, and possibly scoring it as well. A little note of advice to the next director in the series: don’t cross Carpenter.
